Clinton Sailing Club (CSC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting safe, active, and fun community sailing. We launched in summer 2016 and taught nearly 200 kids to sail. Our goal is to create a program open to all local kids ages 8-18, regardless of income level. Come join the fun and help us take it to the next level!
CSC is looking for a Head Instructor eager to lead our sailing program in summer 2017. Must have a dynamic personality, love sailing, and enjoy working with kids ages 8-18.
CSC’s Head Instructor is expected to oversee the summer sailing program. This includes, but is not limited to, running the program on shore and on the water, communicating with parents, making calls about weather and safety, managing CSC staff, coordinating with CSC’s volunteer Board, and managing the sailing fleet and coaching boats. The Head Instructor should have previous experience in sailing programs and leadership roles, and is expected to have strong sailing skills. The Head Instructor is required to be US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certified or above.
In addition to the above responsibilities, CSC’s Head Instructor will be on the water coaching (this is the fun part)! Here’s a typical day: working closely with our three Instructors and volunteer Junior Instructors, you prepare our Laser Bugs, Flying Juniors (FJs) and center-console Achilles inflatable coaching boats in the morning. You welcome children and parents, cover land-based instruction, then tow sailors to Cedar Island. Coach your morning group, break for lunch, repeat in the afternoon. Stow all boats and gear at the end of the day.
Our program has a high instructor:student ratio of 1:3 for most sessions, with a typical class size of 12 students. This approach will allow you to focus on coaching, safety, and individual student needs; in other words, providing a great experience for students and their parents! You also will be shaping the future of a new youth sailing program: how exciting is that?
This is a summer position for 11 weeks from June 12th – August 25th. We look forward to hearing from you!
